Teranetics TN1010, The New Standard for 10GBASE-T Applications
The Teranetics TN1010 is the industry’s first available and shipping single-chip 10GBASE-T PHY designed for high-bandwidth applications in next-generation switches, servers and storage networks. The TN1010 includes multi-rate support allowing systems to connect to 100M, 1G or new 10G ports all through the conventional RJ-45 jack. These two attributes make the Teranetics TN1010 PHY the easiest to design-in today and provides backward compatibility assurance for immediate connectivity to a new generation of network and data center hardware.

The TN1010 PHY supports cost-effective single and dual port NIC implementations and has the power and size needed for new high-density 10G switch implementations. The inclusion of multi-rate 100M/1G/10G support in the TN1010 makes it the right choice for the server, where redundancy through existing 1G infrastructure is critical for reliable installations. For switches, the TN1010 supports designs that match the density of today’s optical based switches but, as no separate modules are required in BASE-T, it can reduce the deployment cost per port by nearly a factor of 10. The use of 10G instead of 1G connections can reduce the cost of bandwidth through the switch to the server by a factor of 2 or more over very cost effective 1G solutions.

TN1010 Enables a New Breed of Network Applications
Typical applications for 10G Ethernet technology include High Performance Computing Cluster (HPC), databases, advanced storage networks and storage cluster applications. These applications have to date been limited by the costs of 10G technologies that have exceeded thousands of dollars/port. 10GBASE-T and the Teranetics TN1010 delivers the promise of 10G Ethernet by delivering the traditional UTP use and cost model and for the first time, making 10G to the server viable throughout the data center.

New emerging data center architectures have a vision of “One Network” for converged data, security and storage, as well as emphasis on virtualization to better use each element of the corporate infrastructure. The TN1010 makes 10G cost effective enough to realize this vision and eliminates the need for alternative choices such as optical-fiber based PHYs and Infiniband fabrics.
